New Year, New Life Choices

Welcome 2011!!

Brett was very sick over New Year's Eve with a tooth issue, so we both stayed in this year.  However, there are already tentative plans in the works for going to Alpine, TX on NYE next year.  We'll keep you posted.

Instead of making "New Years Resolutions", Brett and Michelle have made some intentions/ goals for 2011.

The biggest one is starting (and finishing) P90X.  For those of you who don't know, P90X is a 90-day fitness plan which includes about an hour of working out every day (weight lifting, yoga, aerobics, etc.) and a very healthy (and somewhat strict) eating plan based on plenty of fruits and veggies, whole grains, low-fat meats and dairy.  Very balanced and smart, but still a shock to our systems so far.  It's amazing how much crap you eat without thinking about it. We've only got one week under our belts, but so far we're doing an excellent job of keeping each other motivated, making our food ahead of time, and getting up to work out.  In addition, Michelle's brother and sister-in-law (Bryce and Kathryn) are doing P90X at the same time.  It will be cool to see each other grow stronger and healthier.

Our goal is be in the best shape of our lives for our wedding.  We're not aiming to lose weight per se (although of course looking good in bathing suits on our honeymoon won't suck), we just really want to start our lives together as healthy as we can.  We want to set up a precedent for good health habits.  We both have heart problems and other health issues in our families and we want to be around each other as long as we can (because we sorta like each other). We also both know we feel happier and have more energy when we're putting good things in our system and have strong, able bodies. We can only be better partners to each other if we're in that healthy place, it's just darn good for mental health. And IF we ever have kids (don't get too excited moms), we want to be able to set that good example for them and it'd be easier to stick with it if we're already in the habit.  So what better wedding present can we give to each other besides good health and good habits to start us off right?  I can't think of any.

The other New Years intentions include making some greener choices (creating a more user-friendly recycling set-up in our house, buying more used items, taking the metrorail to school in the fall), spending more time with family and friends (skyping more often, having regular Saturday family brunch/ hikes twice a month), eating dinner at the table, and paying off one of our bigger credit cards.

We've got baby steps for all these goals and we're already on our way to a lot of them, so hopefully this time next year we'll be able to say we achieved some obtainable, healthy goals we can be proud of.

We hope y'all's 2011 is a fantastic one full of love, growth, and peace.

None of the pictures posted below really have anything to do with the above stuff, but the best part of a blog is the pictures so...

Friday night we went to Doug and Rena's to hang out and Chris (C-Rob) was there, too.  We stayed up late laughing and playing Liar's Dice.  Michelle is new to the game, but she won one game!  Brett won two, but he didn't rub it in her face. Lela even played a bit.
Doug and Chris treated us to a free concert (see the video below)

Brett took a turn on the ghee-tar.

Lela woke up and she decided to play a round of Liar's Dice.

Liars Dice board made many moons ago by a friend of the guys.
It's made from an old pizza box.
Doug even bragged that you could see the old oil stains in the box.
