Honeymoon

Well, we are on the last day of our honeymoon here in Cancun.  Unfortunately, Brett has fallen ill so we’re spending a lazy day in bed ordering room service and reading on the balcony.  Not such a horrible thing in the end.

We’ve had an amazing time.  We arrived last Saturday and our room wasn’t quite ready so we went down to the beachside bar and ordered our first margaritas.  After getting settled in the room we went down and spent the afternoon at the adult-only pool with a great swim-up bar. 

Sunday morning we got up early and watched the sunrise over the Caribbean.  That night we went and saw a reggae band on the beach and danced until they were done playing.  Monday was a whole lot of pool-side lounging, reading, and laziness.  Awesome. 

Tuesday we went on an excursion to Chichen Itza, Mayan ruins about two hours away.  First the tour stopped at a cenote. If you don’t know, a cenote is a deep natural sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath.  The Mayans used them both for sacrifice and ritual cleansing. The pool is stunningly blue and it feels unreal it’s so beautiful.  After a dip, we got back on the bus and went to the ruins.  I wish we had more time there… and I wish we’d gone earlier in the day.  We were so hot that it was hard to want to explore and spend time really seeing everything.  But it was worth the trip.  What an amazing archeological site. We were dirty, exhausted, and happy when we returned to the resort that night.

Wednesday we woke up and had a spa treatment.  We got to enjoy the hot tub and sauna before they led us to our beach front tiki hut.  We got massages side by side with the crash of the waves in the background.  It was amazing.  That night we had a candlelight dinner on the beach. After dinner we took some drinks and found some beach chairs and watched the water.  A drumming group was playing down the beach so we sat there listening and enjoying the night.  It was a very romantic, indulgent day. 

Thursday, Brett started feeling a little flu-ish so we took it easy.  We laid by the pool in the cooler evening and went out for lunch and dinner, but other than that we stayed in and read and rested.  Today Brett is feeling even worse so, like I said, we’re taking advantage of round-the-clock room service and finishing our books and watching golf. 

We had an incredible time, but we will be very glad to see our own bed and of course the dogs.  Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible.  It was more than either of us could have imagined. Check out our Picasa site for even more pics!
